QR Codes for Product Packaging
You print packaging in bulk because that's how the unit economics work — a few thousand boxes at a time, sometimes more. But the things your packaging points to don't hold still. The instruction manual gets revised, warranty registration moves to a new tool, the support page gets rebuilt with new URLs. A static QR code printed on those boxes is frozen at whatever URL was correct the day the files went to the printer.
A ScanTrail QR code works differently. The printed code encodes a permanent short link, and you control where that link points from a dashboard. Ship boxes today, rewrite the instructions in October, repoint the link in thirty seconds — every box already in warehouses, on shelves, and in customers' hands now leads to the new page.
You also get to see whether anyone actually scans. ScanTrail records scans per day, time of day, country, and device for each code, so you can tell whether the QR on the box earns its space.

Change the destination after the boxes are printed
Every ScanTrail dynamic code points to a permanent short link that you can redirect anytime. When your instructions PDF moves or you replace a landing page between packaging runs, edit the link in the dashboard and every printed box updates instantly. No reprints, no stickers over old codes.
Find out if anyone actually scans the code
Packaging real estate is limited, so it's worth knowing whether the QR earns its spot. ScanTrail shows scans per day, a time-of-day histogram, country, device type, and referrer for each code. On Pro you can export the data as CSV.
Vector files your packaging designer can actually use
Download codes as SVG so they stay sharp at any print size, from a small label to a shipping carton, or grab a PNG if that's what your workflow expects. Pro adds custom QR colors so the code can match your packaging palette instead of defaulting to black on white.
Fast redirects wherever your product ships
Redirects are served from Cloudflare's edge network, so a customer scanning in Berlin or São Paulo gets to your page quickly. Customers scan with their phone's built-in camera — there's no app to install on either end.

Common questions
What happens to the QR codes on my packaging if I stop paying?
Your account drops to the free plan, which keeps 3 dynamic codes working — so if you're using 3 or fewer, your printed codes keep redirecting at no cost. If you're running more than 3, you'd need to stay on Pro to keep them all active; at $10/year, that's cheap insurance for codes printed on thousands of boxes.
How much does ScanTrail cost?
Static QR downloads are free and unlimited, no account needed. The free plan adds 3 dynamic codes with the last 7 days of analytics. Pro is $1/month or $10/year and includes 1,000 dynamic codes, full analytics history, custom QR colors, and CSV export.
Should I use a static or dynamic QR code on packaging?
A static code bakes the URL into the printed pattern itself, so it can never be changed — fine for something permanent, and ScanTrail lets you download unlimited static codes free. For packaging, dynamic is usually the right call: instructions, warranty forms, and landing pages change more often than packaging gets reprinted.
Do my customers need a special app to scan the code?
No. The camera app on any modern iPhone or Android phone reads QR codes natively. The scan opens a ScanTrail short link served from Cloudflare's edge network, which redirects to your page quickly anywhere in the world.
What file format should I give my printer?
SVG. It's a vector format, so the code stays crisp whether it's printed at 15 mm on a label or blown up across a carton. PNG is also available if your designer's workflow prefers raster files.
