QR Codes for Car Dealerships
Here's the usual cycle: a vehicle lands on the lot, someone prints a window sticker with a QR code pointing at its listing page, and three weeks later the car sells. Now the sticker is trash and the link on it leads to a dead page or a "no longer available" notice. Repeat that for every unit on the lot, every time inventory turns, and QR stickers become a chore nobody keeps up with — which is why so many lots quietly stop using them.
A ScanTrail QR code works differently. The printed code encodes a permanent short link, and you control where that link goes — and you can change it anytime, after printing. So instead of printing a sticker per vehicle, you print a set of durable, numbered stickers or hangtag placards once. Code 01 goes on whatever occupies its spot. When that car sells, move the placard to the incoming unit, open ScanTrail, and point Code 01 at the new listing. The printed code never goes stale.
You also get data you don't currently have. Every scan is logged with time of day, country, and device, so you can see which units people are scanning while walking the lot after close — shoppers who browsed your inventory before ever talking to a salesperson.

Repoint a printed sticker to a new vehicle in under a minute
Each dynamic code is a permanent short link with an editable destination. When a car sells, you update the code's URL to the next unit's listing page from any browser. The same laminated sticker or placard cycles through your inventory indefinitely — no reprinting, no dead links on the windshield.
See which units get scanned, and when
ScanTrail logs scans per day, a time-of-day histogram, device type, country, and referrer for every code. That tells you which vehicles draw after-hours foot traffic and which stickers nobody touches — signal you can use before a shopper ever fills out a lead form. Pro accounts can export it all as CSV.
Print once, at any size, in your colors
Download codes as SVG and they scale cleanly from a hangtag to a full window decal with no pixelation. Pro accounts can set custom QR colors to match dealership branding. Because the destination is editable, one print run covers you through every inventory turn.
Nothing for the shopper to install
Codes scan with the standard phone camera — no app. Redirects are served from Cloudflare's edge network, so the shopper standing at the window gets to the listing page fast.
How to set it up
- Sign up free at forever-scan.com. The free plan includes 3 dynamic codes, so you can trial the workflow on a few vehicles before committing.
- Create a dynamic QR code and set its destination to a vehicle's listing page (or your inventory search filtered to that unit).
- Download the code as SVG or PNG and drop it into your window sticker or hangtag template. SVG is best if you print at multiple sizes.
- Print, laminate, and place it on the vehicle. Numbering each sticker (Code 01, 02, ...) makes reassignment easy later.
- When the car sells, edit the code's destination to the next vehicle's listing. The printed sticker keeps working — you never reprint it.
Common questions
What happens to the codes on my stickers if I stop paying?
Your account drops to the free plan, which keeps 3 dynamic codes redirecting — those printed stickers keep working. Free accounts see the last 7 days of analytics rather than full history. If you're running more than 3 codes, staying on Pro is $10/year, so lapsing is rarely worth the hassle.
How much does this cost for a whole lot?
Pro is $1/month or $10/year and includes 1,000 dynamic codes — enough to give every unit on almost any lot its own code, at one flat price. Pro also adds full analytics history, custom QR colors, and CSV export. The free plan (3 dynamic codes, last 7 days of analytics) is enough to test the workflow first.
What happens if someone scans the sticker after the car sells but before I update it?
The code still redirects to whatever destination it had, so they'd land on the sold vehicle's listing until you edit it. Updating takes under a minute from any browser, so most stores fold it into the same step where they mark the unit sold. Some avoid the gap entirely by pointing codes at filtered inventory pages instead of individual listings.
Do shoppers need a special app to scan these?
No. Any modern phone camera reads them natively. The scan hits a short link served from Cloudflare's edge network and redirects straight to the page you've set.
What can I actually see in the analytics?
Per code: scans per day, a time-of-day histogram, country, device type (mobile, tablet, desktop), and referrer. In practice that shows you which vehicles get scanned during after-hours lot walks and which locations or placements underperform. Pro accounts can export the data as CSV for whatever reporting you already run.
