How does a vCard QR code actually work?
The QR code encodes plain text in vCard format — the same .vcf standard used for contact attachments in email. When a phone camera reads the code, it recognizes the vCard structure and offers to create a new contact with the fields already filled in. The data lives entirely inside the printed pattern; the code doesn't link to anything and works without an internet connection.
Is my contact information sent to your server?
No. This generator runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The details you type are converted to a QR image locally on your device and never leave it. You could load this page, disconnect from the internet, and the generator would still work.
Will it work on both iPhone and Android?
Yes. The built-in camera apps on modern iPhones and Android phones both recognize vCard QR codes and prompt to save the contact — no separate scanner app needed. Some older devices or third-party camera apps may display the raw text instead of a save prompt, but that's increasingly rare.
Which fields should I fill in?
You can include name, phone, email, company, job title, and website — all optional. Fewer fields make a simpler, less dense code that scans more reliably at small sizes, so include what people actually need and skip the rest.
How small can I print it?
It depends on how much data you encode. More fields mean a denser pattern that needs more physical space to scan reliably. As a rule of thumb, keep a vCard QR at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) square on a business card, test it with a real phone before sending anything to print, and use the SVG download if you need to scale it up cleanly.
What happens if my details change after I print the code?
